Joël Dupras studied graphic design before joining Visu, a family-run business creating high-end furniture. He designs furniture lines for the bedroom, dining room and living room, and has developed a design niche creating home modular storage elements.
In 2008, he founded the firm Joël Dupras Designer (JDD) and created Como, a line of bedroom furniture for lifestyle hotels manufactured by Foliot Furniture. Joël began collaborating with WETSTYLE in 2009, winning Interior Design magazine’s Best of Year Award (BOYA) for the M collection. Since then, he has been a key collaborator, contributing to collections like Tulip, Frame Linea, and Deco.
Joël prefers to focus on simple shapes and balanced proportions without sacrificing functionality. His minimalist approach delights the senses, creating an inviting environment filled with visual and tactile pleasures. President of the Association of Canadian Industrial Designers from 2008 to 2010, Patrick Messier started his career at Michel Dallaire Designers. From 1996 to 2002, he was involved in various projects designing medical equipment, aircraft interiors, furniture, electronic materials and utilitarian objects. In 1999, he founded Messier Designers and in 2002 he expanded his portfolio to include product development strategy and graphic communication.
Since 2003, he has participated in numerous fairs and shows in Canada and abroad—New York, Washington, Tokyo, London and Paris, among others. He has also taken home several prizes, including the Gold Award of the 2004 Toronto IIDEX/Neocon for Kingsey, an innovative urban bench, and the 2006 Best of Canada for Mamma, a rocking chair whose sensuous curves conquered the international press (even the Wall Street Journal). It should be noted that these two creations are part of the permanent collection at the Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec.
Patrick Messier’s approach focuses on what he calls “controlling the pheromones of aesthetics”, i.e. creating objects with an allure so powerful as to trigger an uncontrollable urge to possess them.
Every piece of furniture that leaves the WETSTYLE factory is a work of art, created in Quebec and assembled with the utmost craftsmanship.
